ABOUT US
With experience guiding on all of the eight-thousand-meter peaks of Nepal, and hundreds of climbs of six-thousand-meter peaks and treks over high elevation passes, the staff of Nepal Alpine Guides are some of the most experienced and highly trained in the Himalayas. Our staff are frequently hired by international mountaineering agencies to do logistics, set routes, and guide the most difficult peaks in the world. Although we are proud to provide high quality customer service and an unparalleled summit success rate, what really sets us apart is our commitment to supporting the communities where our staff live. We believe that if our staff have the proper training, good wages, and a high quality of life the product they provide will be the best in can be.
Nepal Alpine Guides was founded by Karma Geljen Sherpa with the help of friends and clients from previous treks and climbs in the Himalaya. Karma started the company to provide stable employment to members of his community who were working for tourism companies for low wages and who were not provided with insurance, equipment, or training despite their experience working on peaks such as Mt. Everest, Makalu, AmaDablam, and Kangtega. Karma's desire to provide work opportunities was informed by dozens of years of his own experience working as a porter, guide, and expedition leader for local and international agencies.
Nepal Alpine Guides is proud to provide training and employment to women, who are not often given the opportunity to work as trekking and mountaineering guides in Nepal. The company also employs people of ethnic groups that have seen little benefit from tourism. Because of the company's progressive vision and commitment to responsible tourism, Nepal Alpine Guides receives support through Karma Project, an NGO that supports Nepalese businesses that contribute to the welfare of those living in remote Himalayan villages.
